Alanna's Secret Sauce: Quill & Quire's Best Books of 2024!
We are so honoured to have one of our books on Quill & Quire’s Young Readers Best Books of the Year for 2024!
For those of you outside the publishing world, Quill & Quire and their community of booksellers, librarians, and critics review hundreds of books across Canada. Anything there is to know about the current publishing scene, that’s where you’ll find it. So, when we found out a book of ours was on this list, right beside books from Penguin Random House and HarperCollins, we got so excited. We love seeing the impact of our books after they go out into the world. It reminds us that the hard work we’ve done already has paid off, and really, the audience is the reason we do work so hard.
We put all our best efforts forward because of our artists, as well. They come to us with beautiful visions of garlic, curly hair, delicious smells, and potlucks, and we get to help bring their vision to the world as a physical book you can hold. One part of that is getting to connect authors with illustrators. Virginia Alecia has clearly done an amazing job at augmenting the imagery written by Sarah Jane Conklin and turning it into a bright and cozy world you want to just dive right into! As you may have seen in our interview, Sarah Jane has a beautiful goal to show children how beautiful the world can be when we take care of our environment and each other. So, we are especially proud of her book bringing this message to readers across Canada.
“What’s in Alanna’s Secret Sauce?” is such a wonderful and magical book that addresses food insecurity and how sharing is one of the best tools we’ve got to create community. We are so proud of Sarah Jane Conklin and Virginia Alecia for their work and so honoured by Quill & Quire for featuring it.
