The wind pushes or pulls a sailboat, but a sailboat will not function going directly into the wind.  We can adjust our course a bit and adjust our sails to make the boat go fast.  If we do not adjust what we can control, the things we cannot control may prevent us from going where we want to go.

In this way, sailing is like life.

Oftentimes, things will come our way that throw us “off course”.  If we remember our sailing lessons, we know that with a bit of a change in direction… and adjusting our sails accordingly… we can pretty much go wherever we want to go too.

Damon Goodwin grew up sailing in Shediac, New Brunswick, with his father and brothers. Together they shared many adventures on the waters between Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick. Damon later moved to Quispamsis, New Brunswick, where he continues to race and cruise sailboats on the Bay of Fundy and along the incredible river system near his home. He enjoys living near his three wonderful children and their families,
including his granddaughters, Valerie and Alayna, and with his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Cynthia.

Danelle Vautour is an Acadian illustrator and graphic designer. She studied at both UNB and NBCCD to receive a Bachelors of Applied Arts degree, and spent her fifth year of study completing a graphic design diploma at the craft college. Danelle was born and raised in Saint Charles, New Brunswick, a small rural community near the ocean, and now lives in Fredericton. In her free time, she loves trying to learn new artistic mediums, such as embroidery and painting.
